B.Sc. B.Ed. college programme is essentially a timesaving dual-degree programme that enables a student to earn a Bachelors degree in Arts (B.A.) or Science (B.Sc.) discipline as well as a Bachelors degree in Education (B.Ed.). Since a B.Ed. degree is a compulsory requirement for working as a teacher, students who are pre-determined to pursue the teaching profession after graduation often choose a dual degree to save time. Simply said, on successful completion of this 4-year dual degree course, two bachelor degrees are earned instead of one.
An Arts student would normally choose a B.A. B.Ed. course over B.Sc. B.Ed. because the former is a degree in Arts while the latter is a degree in Sciences.
The course teaches different training and teaching methods. Any person having passed (10+2) examination from any approved board in India can pursue B.A. B.Ed. or B.Sc. B.Ed. course.
Key topics covered in the course are: contemporary India and education, understanding disciplines and school subjects, reading and reflecting on texts, learning and teaching, pedagogy of a school subject, drama and art in education, knowledge and curriculum, creating an inclusive school, value education, health and physical education, guidance and counseling etc.
The students can pursue M.Ed. after completing B.A. B.Ed. & B.Sc. B.Ed. degree. They can join as higher secondary teachers in various institutions or pursue a doctorate course.
These graduates can find employment in various government/government-aided institutions as well as in primary and high schools.
